American Legion Post 279     4 October 2016

Meeting was called to order at 19:00 hrs after opening ceremonies and POW-MIA recognition.  Post Business was started.

Minutes were read and a motion to approve was made by Billy Stout and seconded by Tyler Aring after a correction to last months minutes was noted that in the By Laws that majority present to raise dues be changed to members present. Typo error was corrected. By Laws reflected the change already and Minutes were approved.

Under old business.  The commander reported that Rid All has not come back to check for termites.

New Business:

We are still waiting on the bid from Scott Brothers to wire kitchen.

The commander reported that 100 new chairs has been purchased for $ 4.00 each and we still need 100 more.
Jon Cerar is intrested in purchasing the old WW 2 uniforms for $ 300.  A motion was made by Tyler Aring and seconded by Billy Stout to sell them to him for $300. Motion carried.

The new assisted living on morton avenue is having thier grand opening November 6th. and would like the American Legion to be present for the opening. Details to follow.

The legion was approached by Linda Wyatt asking for a donation to the homeless veterans in Springfield.  The Commander made a motion to donate $ 100 to the homeless shelter and was seconded by Bill Morrow.  Vote was taken and motion carried.  Linda also noted that individuals may donate if they wish.  The shelter is in need of personal hygene items.

Due to the amount of parties in the banquet hall, Lisa asked about purchasing another ice machine.  Danny said that he would donate a deep freeze and we could bag ice and store in advance for the parties from our ice machine.

C.J. Flynn had donated 2 flags to the Legion. 

The West Central Illinois Lethernecks is talking of donating another flag pole to the legion.

Bill Morrow brought up about the Illinois Veterans History Project sponsored by Secretary of State Jesse White.  The project allows and encourages veterans to record thier story.  Jacksonville area had court reporters that will assist veterans in recording thier story.  If interested see Bill for more information.
