American Legion Post 279                                       7 August 2018
 
Meeting was called to order 19:00 hrs, The Commander offered a prayer in the absence of the Chaplain, Pledge of Allegiance and POW-MIA Recognition was done, Post business was started.
 
Minutes were read and a motion was made by Dick Stout. Seconded by Michael Bushnell Minutes were approved.
 
Legion Finances are as follows:
 
Bar Account:                          $ 17,045.52
General Fund:                        $ 34,152.77
Building Fund:                           $ 10,676.77
Membership:                         $ 2,161.00
 
Total:                                   $ 64,036.06
 
The Commander reported that one of our members, Paul Blanchette has passed away.
 
The new cabinets in the prep room are finished.  Ron Hofstadt has donated 2 cabinets to the legion that need assembled.
 
The side doors in the banquet hall have been fixed.  The seal under the roll up door needs replaced.
 
The faucets in the mens bathroom in the bar area have been replaced.  The plan is to replace all of the leaky faucets throughout the legion down the road.
 
The Commander has spoken with Ace Sign Company about the Legion sign on the front of the building.  The old budget was $ 700.  Dick Stout made a motion to raise it to
$ 1000.  Seconded by Richard Moss.  Motion Carried.  The Commander stated that Ace could make the missing 4 letters for $ 200 but they would take several months to match the existing color of letters.  The plan is to try and replace all the letters of the same color.
 
The Commander spoke in great detail about the Queen of Hearts drawing that the Legion is going to start in early September.  See Toni for the official rules.
 
The Legion purchased two display cabinets for our memorabilia.  The Commander has purchased new frames for our past Commanders.  Most of the existing frames were falling apart and did not match. The plan is to display the pictures in the meeting room
(Banquet Hall) on both sides of the back bar.
 
On August 28th, the Illinois Hearing Center will be hosting a free hearing check at the Legion.  It is free to attend.  The demonstration will include some of the latest technology devices to help people hear better thru phones and other hearing devices.
