Commander: Danny W. Davison
American Legion post 279 8/2/2016

Meeting was called to order at 19:00 hrs.  After opening ceremonies and POW-MIA recognition post business was started.

Minutes were read and a motion to approve was made by Billy Stout and seconded by Ron Hoffstadt,  Minutes were approved

Under old business, the Commander said that we need to get the range hood that we purchased last year back over to the Legion so we can clean it up and decide what to do with it.

Trevor Lahey mentioned at an earlier meeting that he would cut down the hood to make it fit our kitchen if this is the route that we want to take.

Two new table carts have been purchased and are in use.

Three more table carts have been purchased that will hold all of our white tables.

Another Congo wedding took place at the Legion as usual, it was trashed again.  The Commander therefore canceled the remaining scheduled Congo weddings other that the one scheduled for 8/6/2016.

If this wedding goes off without problems, the weddings will continue but with a $1500 deposit to cover damages and cleaning fees.

We are going to get rid of the remaining wooden tables, with the exception of the 10 wide tables that will be used for auctions.

The canopy out front has been painted by Michael Large from J.B. Large and Sons and Billy Stout at no charge to the Legion.

It was reported that Past Commander Warren Moss is having severe back pain and is still waiting for a surgery date.

The Commander reported that the thermostat for the back cooler had to be replaced due to excessive rust.

Under new business:

The Commander stated that new By-Laws have been completed and a draft copy had been posted on our website for member review.

Hopefully have a vote on them next meeting.  Some noted changes include that only 6 members are necessary to have a vote on items.  It also includes information on membership requirements and how we accept new members.

Commander stated that as of now we have 150 chairs on carts with another 200 stacked against the wall.  He stated that we can purchase additional chair carts for Amazon.Com for $279 each that will hold 84 chairs each.

A motion was made to purchase 3 additional chair carts immediately by Bob Northrup and seconded by Mike Morrow, Motion carried.
T
he commander said that he would like to eventually replace all of the brown chairs with white ones at a cost of $10 each from Lowe’s.

The commander stated that he would like to raise the rental hall deposit from $200 to $300.  Billy Stout made a motion to raise the deposit to $300 and was seconded by Ron Hoffstadt, Motion Carried.

There was discussion about taking liquor from the Legion after a wedding party and other parties.  We do not have a package liquor license that would allow that.  It will need to be looking into further.

Billy Stout is our new Facility Officer.  He will be in charge of making sure that the facility is in a good state of repair and everything is working properly.

It was brought up about the possibility of installing some security cameras due to the recent break-ins around town.  Wal-Mart has a system for $289 that would allow us to monitor the back room events as well as recorded documentation in the event of hall damages.  We will follow up with a security firm for more detailed information and revisit the discussion next meeting.

The Commander asked the membership about how much he should be allowed to spend without coming to the membership.  Tyler Aring said that he thought that the commander should spend whatever he needs with the exception of Capitol Improvements.  A motion was made by

Bob Northrup and seconded by Ron Hoffstadt that the commander is allowed to spend up to $1000 for the month and explain at the next meeting how much he had spent for the month.

The kitchen situation was brought up again as to what to do with it.  The Commander stated the he thought it would take $40,000 to put it back to a functioning kitchen.

Commander stated that we should consider making it into a regular kitchen that would allow a caterer to use it.  The wiring issue will be looked into and reported at next meeting.

Bill Stout reported that there will be a pot luck at the legion on Aug 28th in the front bar starting at 1 p.m.  A signup sheet is in the bar as to what is needed and being brought.  A good turn out was reported for the last one they held.

There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 20:10 hrs.
